• Dartmouth: The long distance South West Coast Path goes by the end of the street, but there are plenty of local walks. The town is small (6000 people), but it is the area's center and so has great shops and restaurants all within a few hundred yards of the house. Nationally famous restaurant The Carved Angel is just down on the quay (Embankment).

  • Here are links to General information on the town or several links to one person's website which is quite informative pictures of the town 1 and pictures of the town 2, events, water transport, around the area, the wonderful Coleton Fishacre and getting there. if you want to take the local buses to nearby towns or villages, here's the link for services and schedules

Here is a directory for the town.

The larger of the castles protecting the entry to the river is open to the public. The river itself is embanked with stands of specimen trees, and sailing up the river (detailed pictures) or taking one of the ferries is really lovely. Cross the river and take the steam train to Paignton.
